I started this work by looking closely at some dried Ginkgo leaves.

I tried to follow the small leaf veins, leaving my hand free to move on the paper without ever taking the pencil off the paper, using a single continuous line. This type of approach is useful for understanding the form as a whole, for constructing the subject by moving from the inside to the outside and vice versa, thus giving the drawing a movement and organicity that makes it come alive. It is very useful to associate to this technique of the continuous stroke, the technique of the blind drawing.

For these compositions I used completely experimental writing instruments to make the marks more vibrant: small branches, sticks and fragments of bamboo cane.
